Rietput – Molenmeers : Development of implementation plans and obtaining environmental permit

Narrative :

The Rietput Molenmeers project is part of the development of the Kalkense Meersen within the Sigma Plan, which focuses on flood prevention and nature restoration. The 606-hectare area serves as a wetland to capture rainwater and gradually discharge it into the Scheldt, while also supporting biodiversity. The 6.5-hectare project area,  Rietput – Molenmeers, located south of Kalken, includes grasslands, old fish ponds, patches of old Canadian poplars and mixed forest, and linear elements of old coppiced willow trees.

ANB, agency of Nature and Forest, has asked Haedes to design the restoration plans of this natural area into wetlands for the creation of habitat for the European Bittern (Botaurus stellaris) and little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus). The technical plans that will be drawn up will be used to obtain an environmental permit for the development of this area.
